We would be inclined to credit [Tiffany Taylor's] genes and maybe a good moisturizer for her striking good ooks, but Tiffany says her real beauty secret "is my facialist J'ai."

L.A.'s Make-Up Mistress: J'ai Lone

Most of Hollywood knows J'ai Lone for her makeup and skincare expertise (client Ashley Olsen recently sang her praises in the London Times) but only a select few know she's developed a line of makeup all her own. The sheer foundations have a soft-focus effect, muting out imperfections while allowing skin to glow through. The velvety lipsticks--move over, gloss, they're back in a big way--are formulated with Vitamin E and the eye shadows have names like Doheny Rose, Wetherly Sand and Natural Rodeo, named for the streets near Lone's always-booked salon.

timeslogo.pngFrom the "Bag of Tricks" interview with Ashley Olsen in the Times of London, October 8, 2005:

I usually follow the same beauty routine both morning and night. I cleanse using Darphin products, sometimes apply a light scrub to exfoliate, tone and apply eye cream. I use Neocutis moisturiser - it's a Swiss brand that I love. I wash my face during the afternoon too because it freshens me up. I rarely wear eye make-up during the day, so if I'm going out in the evening I vamp it up by applying eyeliner and mascara.

My beauty secrets are not very exciting. Honestly, I keep it simple. I wash my face a lot and I enjoy splurging and getting a monthly facial. I'm loyal to my aesthetician, J'ai, who is based in LA. She has the most healing touch.

Healthy City: Head to Toe

If [Charlene] de Lory is the face trainer, then J'ai Lone, Hollywood makeup artist and trusted Canyon Ranch skincare consultant, is the therapist. Twelve years ago, she ditched her snooty salon space so she could give all her clients--not just the Liz Taylors and Johnny Depps--proper personal attention. Now she works out of her pretension-free Beverly Hills studio, where a facial appointment--often accompanied by green tea and strawberries--feels more like a visit with a wise gal pal. Reading your face like a palm, Lone is something of a skin psychic. Whether she's interpreting oily T-zones as a sign of stress or dry, thick skin as a defense against toxic friends, her near-mystical approach links your state of skin to your state of mind. Beauty Crash Course: Foundation Advice. Let it sit. "Your body chemistry can alter the pigment in foundation," explains J'ai Lone, a makeup artist in Beverly Hills, California. Wait 30 minutes after applying before checking the color. "If it hasn't changed, you've got a match." The swatch that disappears, while hiding flaws, is the correct shade.

J'ai also cautions about the use of cream-to-powder foundations, noting that the humectants evaporate as these change from one form to another, meaning everyone but the very young or oily-skinned can end up looking dry.

Town & Country, March 2001

Keeping up our appearances takes time and more than a little effort. But we're busy women, and every minute counts. Thank goodness for the hair stylists who tote their scissors, the manicurists who come ready to buff and polish, the masseuses who carry their own tables and even the colorists who bring magic to go--all chez vous. Such convenience comes at a price, but time is the new luxury, and you're worth it!

USA Today, July 13, 2000

J'ai is named as one of the eybrow stylists on America's "most wanted" list.

Harper's Bazaar, April 2000

Many of the best beauty providers work in their living rooms, and knowing about them bestows a new level of bragging rights. Facialist J'ai Lone, a former makeup artist at Jose Eber, left to work out of her Beverly Hills home so she could give clients like Teri Hatcher and Johnny Depp person attention and spend more time with her dog, Mickey.

InStyle Makeover, Summer 2000

Dye Your Lashes. Why? At last, you can leave the house without mascara. Lash tinting is safest with a vegetable dye, so ask for it before you schedule a salon appointment, says top stylist J'ai Lone.

"Darkening the upper lashes makes eyes look larger and more intense," says J'ai Lone of J'ai of Beverly Hills.

Bare in Mind: A Complete Guide to the Best Hair-Removal Experts Across the Country

J'ai Lone, J'ai of Beverly Hills: A makeup artist and facialist, Lone restricts her waxing to the face; her speciality is eyebrows. She pronounced ours uneven, then waxed and tweezed each into a becoming arch. "Here's a full shape that would be great for you," she said, pointing to a 20-year-old model in British Vogue (an excellent ploy). We left feeling uplifted, not overplucked.

Allure, March 1997

Allure interviewed Los Angeles-area specialists J'ai Lone, Anastasia Soare, and Ole Henriksen about the makeup and skin care products involved in making Oscar Night an "enchanted evening." Among the products I recommended: Visiora makeup by Christian Dior. "It makes skin look unbelievably perfect."
